Brighton's scouting system is certainly noteworthy.
Brighton defeated Manchester United 3-1 in the fifth round of the 2023-24 Premier League (PL) season at Old Trafford in Manchester, England, at 11 p.m. ET on Oct. 16. With the win, Brighton sit fifth in the league with a record of 4-1-1 (12 points), while United slip to 13th with a record of 2-3-1 (6 points) after suffering their second straight defeat.
In the first half, United dominated the attack and had several shots on goal, but Jason Steele was called into action. It was the visitors, Brighton, who had the first laugh. They took the lead in the 20th minute when Danny Welbeck headed home a cross from the right flank by Simone Adingra.
With the score at 1-0, Brighton continued their organized attack in the second half and added a second goal. Eight minutes into the second half, Tariq Lampard's pass found Pascal Gross inside the penalty box, and he fired a shot that rattled the net. Brighton didn't stop there. In the 27th minute, João Pedro made it a three-goal game when he slotted home a ground ball cross, this time from Lampardi.
Brighton pulled one back in the 29th minute through Hannibal Mebry, but the Red Devils held on for the 3-1 win. This is the second consecutive season that Brighton have secured a win at Old Trafford. The Seagulls are also in strong form, having beaten United in each of their last four matches. It started with a 4-0 win in May last year, followed by a 2-1 victory in August. The Seagulls also beat United 1-0 in May of this year, extending their winning streak to four games.
Even more surprising is the difference in the total amount of squad signings between the two teams. Brighton fielded a 4-2-3-1 formation that day. According to Sky Sports in the UK, Brighton spent just £16.2 million to sign 11 players.
Five of the players were free agents. In addition to Welbeck, Brighton brought in Adam Lallana, Mahmoud Dahoud, Louis Dunk, and 토토사이트 goalkeeper Steele for no fee. Even excluding them, Addingra was the highest-priced transfer at £6.9 million.
It's an amazing scouting system. Kaoru Mitoma and Gross arrived in Brighton's colors for a combined fee of £2.6 million. The defense didn't break the £3 billion mark either. Jan-Paul van Hecke, Lampardy, and Joel Feltman cost £1.7 million, £1.5 million, and £0.9 million respectively.
United, on the other hand, spent an astronomical amount to build their squad. The Red Devils spent £72 million on the signing of frontman Rasmus Højlund alone, who started the game. They also spent €55 million on Bruno Fernandes and €70 million on Casemiro.
The defense is also spectacular. We spent £70 million on Lisandro Martinez, £31 million on Diogo Dalot, €22 million on Andre Onana, and £45 million on goalkeeper Andre Onana. That's roughly $568 billion.
