A bizarre incident occurred during the Euro 16 round of 16 match between Germany and Denmark.
"The reason why a man climbed onto the roof of the stadium and disrupted the game at Euro 2024 has been revealed - and it's bizarre," British media outlet Sports Bible reported on Jan. 1 (ET).
Germany won their Euro 2024 Round of 16 match against Denmark 2-0 on June 30 at the BVB Stadion Dortmund in Dortmund, Germany.
The Round of 16 match was interrupted during the first half due to a storm around the stadium, with referee Michael Oliver taking the players off the field for 23 minutes. When play resumed, Denmark opened the scoring but were furious when VAR disallowed the goal and Germany were awarded a PK for a handball.
After Kai Haberz converted a penalty, Jamal Musalla sealed the victory with a tremendous dribble. But the game didn't end there. In the second half, the game was briefly halted when supporters and players spotted a man climbing onto the roof of the stadium.
After security officers spotted the man on the roof, the game was halted while referee Oliver and team captains Schmeichel and Ilkay Gündoğan were briefed on the situation. Dortmund police later confirmed that a man had climbed onto the stadium roof, and a police helicopter and drone were called in to film the incident.
A video posted on social media showed a man wearing a dark hoodie, covering his face, carrying a backpack and walking along a walkway before climbing over a barrier and onto a roofed structure. Armed 먹튀검증가이드 special forces police arrived and ordered the man, later identified as a 21-year-old man, to come down before arresting him.
In a statement, Dortmund police explained why the man had climbed onto the roof. The police said, "He wanted to take pictures from the roof of the stadium, as he has done elsewhere in Germany. He was carrying camera equipment in a backpack. There was no danger to other people in the stadium. The Dortmund police are currently ruling out political motives."
The 21-year-old man has now been charged with trespassing and has been released from police custody pending an investigation. "The European Football Association and the Dortmund police will follow up on the situation and investigate how the suspect was able to enter the stadium unhindered and climb onto the roof," the Dortmund police added.
