The LG Twins snapped a four-game losing streak to the Doosan Bears and finished May with a plus-7 win-loss margin.
LG won 6-3 at home against Doosan in Jamsil behind a 5⅓ inning, three-hit, one-run performance from starter Son Ju-young and scoring runs in every opportunity. LG, which had lost four straight games after taking one from Doosan this season, snapped a four-game losing streak and ended May on a high note by sending five-starter Son Joo-young to the mound to secure the win despite facing foreign ace Brandon Waddell.
LG went 16-9 with a winning percentage of 6.04 in May alone, finishing second by half a game behind Doosan, who went 16-8 with a winning percentage of 6.067.
With foreign pitchers Dietrick Enns and Casey Kelly struggling in May, the Korean pitching staff was able to step up and perform well, finishing second with 32 wins and 24 losses, 2.5 games behind the first-place Kia Tigers (34 wins and 21 losses).
After opening the scoring in the top of the first inning with a leadoff single by Hong Chang-ki and a sacrifice fly to center field by Moon Sung-joo, LG added a run in the top of the third inning on an infield single by Shin Min-jae and a stolen base by Hong Chang-ki, who scored on a wild pitch, followed by another sacrifice fly by Austin, who scored on an error and an infield single by Moon Sung-joo to make it 3-0. LG added another run in the top of the sixth inning when Moon Bo-kyung's line drive to center field was thrown backward by Doosan center fielder Jung Soo-bin as he tried to make a direct catch.
After scoring a run on Ramos' solo shot in the bottom of the eighth, LG brought in Yoo Young-chan to close out the bottom of the ninth with the bases loaded after three consecutive hits. He struck out Yoo and pinch-hitter Hong Seong-ho, but gave up a single to left to Ramos. Luckily, Jeong got Soo-Bin Jung to ground out in front of the shortstop to end the game. 6-3.
LG starter Son Joo-young picked up his fourth win of the season (3-3), allowing one run on three hits and two walks with four strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings.
